ÉMI

ÉMI Non-Profit Llc. for Quality Control and Innovation in Building (ÉMI) is Hungary’s largest complex institute in construction and building materials industry with more than 200 employees. Our activities are issuing technical approvals and assessments, testing, inspection, expertise, research and development, certification and trainings for professionals from blue collar workers to engineers and inspectors. We also have experts and experiences related to the nuclear field. Working with more than 3000 clients yearly, the main mission of the institute is assistance of securing the high quality of the implementations of the construction sector. In the field of innovation we are working from applied research to the market uptake. Our operation covers the entire country and also includes several international markets. ÉMI was the technical project manager of the Hungarian national residential refurbishment programme and has been acted as technical assessor of the structural funds of the project getting funded by the structural fund in the national environmental and energy operation programme (KEOP).  ÉMI is an active member of a number of European and international organizations (EOTA, EGOLF, ENBRI, WFTAO, CIB, ECTP, UEA etc.). ÉMI was taken part in several EU funded projects from FP5, FP6, FP7 and H2020 related to sustainable construction and energy efficient buildings, having experience in demonstration works as well and large-scale implementation of NZEB and renewable energy utilization in district scale. Currently ÉMI is also participating in H2020 Smart Cities and Communities projects. In 2019 ÉMI organized the Solar Decathlon Europe competition (http://sde2019.hu/index_en.html) which is the ultimate international university competition in innovative homebuilding, after that we established a national model house park and living lab in our Science and Technology Park in Szentendre. ÉMI is also an accredited adult education institution in different construction fields. Furthermore we are currently working on large national constructions, such as the Buda Castle.

ÉMI has experience in projects aiming at upskilling the actors of the construction field. ÉMI coordinated Pillar I. (BUSH) and Pillar II. (TRAINBUD) of the Hungarian Build up Skills projects where an energy efficiency training scheme and material were developed for HVAC skilled workers. Currently ÉMI is workpackage leader in NEWCOM project and responsible for the development and piloting of nZEB training for flat roofers. ÉMI is also workpackage leader in BIMzeED project and is responsible for WP5 Piloting and evaluation.

Institut de Tecnologia de la Construcció de Catalunya

ITeC is a non-profit private foundation working in the field of the construction sector since 1978. Our goals as an organization to support innovation are: (1) The generation and transfer of information and knowledge; (2) The provision of technological services to improve the competitiveness of the construction sector agents: organizations, companies and professionals; (3) To be a benchmark institution in terms of information, innovation and sustainability applied to the construction sector. We are focused on 6 main activities: (1) Certification of innovative and non-standardized products; (2) new methodologies and tools to manage and make decisions during the construction processes; (3) databases and BIM libraries; (4) sustainability in construction; (5) market research; (6) training activities

ITeC has a strong link with construction industries in Spain. It is a point of reference in the building sector for databases, process management methodologies and for BIM evolution.

Due to its BIM knowledge, its experience in transfer of information and its connection with industry, ITeC’s contribution is relevant for WP2 and WP3 (Literature Review and Needs Analysis and Training Material Development).

It has been analysed and detected that the educational offer must be improved; the application of BIM in the design of nZEB buildings must go from theoretical to practical level because the professionals have an insufficient level of knowledge to carry out the projects, at a practical level (BIM and/or nZEB).

ITeC develops a training needs and skills gaps roadmap, before piloting 12-16 relevant Learning Units LUs with 400-500 construction students, site managers, craftworkers and other experienced operatives, therefore improving their employability. ITeC is also in charge of the coordination and development of the training methodology together with the participation of the partners. It will train and update 120 educators in European HEIs and VETs by implementing pilot tests of the new training resources and training materials, which will be available as transferable Learning Units.

Moreover, being mainly involved in specific technical assessments and certifications, ITeC can give also important support also for WP5 during the testing and piloting of the e-learning platform.

ITeC’s databases includes information on construction products, prices, technical specifications, certificates, product images and environmental data. It also provides users with all the construction sector regulations, including building, industrial and civil works current legislative framework and developments. It represents the source of information to facilitate the prescriber decision-making process.

In relation to process management, ITeC has developed a methodology on construction process management called TCQ. This methodology is based on the Bedec Database and the TCQ2000 software, which covers the construction work life cycle including planning, quality, cost and environmental management. TCQ connects with the BIM work environment software, using multi-platform solutions that guarantee interoperability. Process management skills and background can also be useful for WP6.

Architects’ Council of Europe – ACE

The Architects’ Council of Europe is the European organisation representing the architectural profession at European level. Its headquarters and Secretariat are located in Brussels. Its membership currently consists of 43 Member Organisations, which are the regulatory and professional representative bodies in all European Union (EU) Member States, and accession Countries, Switzerland and Norway. Through them, the ACE represents the interests of over 565.000 architects from 31 countries in Europe.
Considering the expected contribution of the building sector to the 2050 objectives and beyond, it is clear that the role of the architects is crucial, as they are expected to deliver new or retrofitted buildings that offer high performance. The need for appropriate training of architects is substantial as the building sector is confronted with a constant evolution of building materials and technologies.  Moreover, innovative approaches both regarding the planning and management of the construction process are necessary in order to reach nZEB standards. For the above reasons, the availability of information and of appropriate training materials for future architects is vital.

The ACE is the dissemination and communication leader of BIMzeED project.
